Do you want to work in one of New Zealand's leading research organisations?

Are you ready to lead a science team?

Do you want to live and work in sunny Nelson?

Nelson I Vacancy 24508

At Plant & Food Research we conduct science and develop technology that adds value to New Zealand's horticulture and seafood industries. We have 13 sites across New Zealand, with Nelson being the home base for our Seafood Technologies science portfolio. From our extensive new facilities on the Nelson sea front, the portfolio's dedicated teams of scientists are making a positive difference to New Zealand's seafood industry. The focus of the Seafood Processing and Marine Products Group is the molecular understanding of marine proteins, lipids and enzymes, adding to scientific knowledge through peer reviewed publications, and the development of high value commercialisation-ready products and processes.

As a Science Team Leader, you will provide scientific, technical and people leadership to your team, and contribute your expertise across the wider Seafood Processing & Marine Products Group. You'll apply an in-depth understanding of seafood components to carry out world-leading science, manage science and technology projects and programmes to deliver high quality scientific and commercial outputs, help formulate the group's strategy and direction, build the capabilities of staff and students, and develop successful funding proposals.

This role will require a PhD in chemistry/biochemistry with a strong publication record and proven experience in biological research, the development and management of research programmes, and the mentoring of researchers and students. It will be essential to be able to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people from within Plant and Food Research, across the seafood sector, and with scientific collaborators.
